Hello,
Another school year is upon us. As I begin my 31st year in the school district and the first as superintendent, I am both excited and humbled to lead one of the finest districts in the country. To the many of you who have expressed your confidence in my leadership, I am thankful and pledge diligence in the execution of my duties.
We are going to focus on making General McLane a world-class learning institution - a place where everyone is a learner and a leader. We must instill in our children, by instruction and example, the importance of always stretching our minds while addressing our physical, mental and emotional growth. We are preparing children today for jobs yet to be invented. We must give them transferable skills that will serve them in the future.
In my tenure as superintendent, I hope to create a well-articulated, effectively delivered K-12 curriculum. We create buildings with defined grade levels to help us organize and wrap our minds around what we do. But our graduates are products of 13 years of effort that must be coordinated and optimally designed for significant impact. Our first step in this pursuit will be a "split in-service day " on October 11 and October 12. Only students in grades 7-12 will attend school on October 11 and students in grades K-6 will attend on Tuesday, October 12. This will give teachers without students a day to observe how "the other half works."
As we work toward improving our district, let us not forget that together, we will achieve far greater things than by working alone.
May you and your family prosper in this new academic year!
Sincerely,
Richard Scaletta
